The Westmorland Gazette and Clive Lawrence of the Lancashire Telegraph were the sole winners at Newsquest’s annual company-wide awards scheme.
The awards ceremony at Heathrow – open to all of all Newsquest’s 17 daily and 300 weekly - was hosted by Boris Johnson – though there is some debate as to whether he actually cycled there…
The overall award for newspaper of the year went to the Northern Echo.
At last year’s awards, three North West winners were recognised including the top prize of newspaper of the year which went to the Lancashire Telegraph. The Telegraph though will no doubt be consoled this year by its hefty tally of five gongs including a winner’s medal for photographer Clive Lawrence.
The list of this year’s regional winners and commendations follows:
Weekly Newspaper of the Year Winner: Westmorland Gazette Highly Commended: Warrington Guardian

Journalist of the Year Highly Commended: David Watkinson Lancashire Telegraph Photographer of the Year Winner: Clive Lawrence Lancashire Telegraph
