YQ North West bought by Regional Magazine Co | Print |  Email to a friend

YQ North West bought by Regional Magazine Co
North West monthly lifestyle magazine YQ has been bought by Yorkshire publisher, Regional Magazine Company, just two months after it celebrated its 3rd birthday.

The magazine will continue to circulate in the region, but RMC will incorporate Moving House into the title.

"YQ is a fantastic publication. We were attracted by the quality of its production, content and the strength of the brand," explained John Murphy, managing director of RMC.

YQ North West bought by Regional Magazine Co
"For a local magazine in the North West it really is out on its own compared to what else is available."

It was founded by Greg Bamber as a quarterly magazine (Your Quarter - YQ), but he sold his 50% shareholding in February this year to publisher Peter Lever.

How-Do tried to contact Lever today, but he was unavailable.

RMC says that sales executives, Odette Calder and Ruth Wertylo will continue to work for the magazine, but it will be designed at their Sheffield headquarters.

YQ wasn't bought, it ceased trading on Oct 1st and was seized by factoring company, Venture Finance, who owned the 'fixed and floating debenture of YQ Ltd'.

Basically the staff weren't paid for the month's work they had done and have also not been paid any redundancy.

RMC can now print the next issue with only print and distriubtion costs against it.

It is a horrible and unamiable end to what was a fantastic magazine.

YQ is still going strong and has developed it's identity further - it is now also available online in a digital edition, so it seems the predicted 'end' was a little premature.

So, where's YQ gone then? I registered to read it online on the RMC site and now it's disappeared. So much for the premature predictions, eh? Didn't even make it to 18months under its new owners...
