ACME, the promotional body which seeks to help support creative industries companies on Merseyside, celebrated its tenth birthday party with a bash at Room in Liverpool last night.
ACME, the promotional body which seeks to help support creative industries companies on Merseyside, celebrated its tenth birthday party with a bash at Room in Liverpool last night.

ACME’s funding is primarily sourced from Liverpool city council with the NWDA and others also chipping in.

Recent figures produced by Liverpool University suggest that Merseyside is home to over 1,500 ‘creative’ businesses employing over 10,000 people.

In addition to currently working alongside Liverpool Vision with an objective to create a creative industries district in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area, the agency’s ‘kin2kin’ online networking website has now attracted over 1,400 members, a cracking rate of growth since How-Do only reported on 1,000 members last July.

Kevin McManus, ACME’s director for the past four years and an ACME staff member since its launch in 1997, said: “The industry was growing steadily and will become increasingly important to the region’s economy.

“The challenge for Merseyside ACME during the last ten years has been to keep pace with the changes affecting a sector that continues to grow at almost twice the rate of the rest of the UK economy.”

Apart from the obvious 08 activities scheduled for this year, Liverpool is also expecting to see the debut in June of the Design Show Liverpool. The project was initially planned as the North West Design Show.

The Show’s London-based promotion company, Momentous, which handles the East London Design Show, is hoping for around 150 exhibitors but is currently proving elusive on progress updates. Backers of the Show also include the Design Initiative and the Liverpool Culture Company.
