Debt recovery company ADC Organisation has been fined £600 and ordered to pay almost £2,000 in costs after pleading guilty to six charges under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
The case was brought after thousands of complaints were received objecting to unsolicited marketing faxes from the company.
The Information Commissioner's Office had repeatedly instructed the company to stop marketing to businesses who had registered with the Fax Preference Service.
Mick Gorrill of the ICO, said: "Unsolicited marketing faxes can be just as irritating and intrusive as unwanted marketing phone calls. This practice is unacceptable and our action against ADC sends out a strong signal to any unscrupulous businesses that flout the rules."
ADC, which is based in Cheetham Hill, Manchester describes itself as ‘the first ever Asian Debt Collection Agency. It was established in 1995 and is regulated by the ADC organisation Ltd’.
