The Abandon Normal Devices new cinema and digital culture festival revealed yesterday that it has been awarded £200,000 a year for the course of the next four years.
AND, which has recently received its brand identity from Liverpool’s Uniform, is a North West cross-regional partnership initiative between FACT (Liverpool), the Cornerhouse (Manchester) and folly (Lancaster). It launches across the region in September with the intention of championing provocative artists, filmmakers and concepts – or in other words ‘questioning the norm and championing the different’. Apparently this will see it being “defined by audience experimentation, industry innovation and artistic risk.” The £800,000 funding purse comes from the Legacy Trust UK and is being delivered for WE PLAY, the region’s cultural legacy programme for the London Olympics. AND has also secured funding from Liverpool City Council, North West Development Agency, Northwest Vision and Media and Arts Council England. Cornerhouse director and chief executive Dave Moutrey said of the plans: “AND will have a positive and lasting impact on and across the region by supporting talented filmmakers based here, presenting the region to the film world as somewhere that has creativity in its DNA, and bringing in visitors." www.andfestival.org.uk
