Asda drops Coleen as its promotional ‘face’ | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 25 April 2008
Asda has decided not to renew its two year contract with Coleen McLoughlin as the supermarket’s ‘face’ of its ad campaigns for clothing brand George.

Asda has decided not to renew its two year contract with Coleen McLoughlin as the supermarket’s ‘face’ of its ad campaigns for its clothing brand George.
It is believed that Asda is keen to move its advertising pitch more upmarket and that Coleen, partner of MUFC’s Wayne Rooney, has a more populist appeal than Asda seeks.

McLoughlin, who is 22, is also considered younger than the target audience of 25 yr olds plus that George typically targets.

According to one national tabloid, names being bandied around to replace her include Sienna Miller, Helen Mirren and Joanna Lumley.

Another North West based celebrity, Kerry Katona, was also recently the victim of another retail chain’s decision not to renew a celeb endorsement contract.

Why is the advertising pitch going more upmarket? Surely George is about accessibility? And let's face it, up market people aren't going to waste their money on George - it's hardly an aspirational brand and when they churn out suits for 99p, it never will be.

What an ill conceived idea. Really, what a waste of time. Their target demographic is not upmarket and will not relate to Polyester cr@p.

Right enough of a rant, I've got to get back to scratching my balls that are comfortably housed in my Paul Smith suit and Armani boxers.
