Joanne Birtwistle, the editor of the NWDA’s Outbox initiative, has joined Crain’s having apparently lost patience with the new site’s much delayed launch .
Outbox, a new ‘rich media magazine’ funded by the NWDA, was initially planned to launch last autumn but its release has been delayed on several occasions.
Birtwistle joined Outbox as editor in October having previously been a senior staff writer with Insider business magazine.
She now joined Crain’s Manchester business as a senior business reporter reporting to the editor Steve Brauner.
Birtwistle told How-Do that “I’d put together a bank of features and pilot radio shows for the site and there really isn’t much else to do now until it is launched.”
Prior to joining Insider, Birtwistle was an online editor with Datamonitor in Manchester. Datamonitor is a research and data company which publishes research, newsletters and news analysis.
Birtwistle wasn’t able to shed any light on when the site would go live.
Sarah Kemp, director of business relations at the NWDA told How-Do: “Project Outbox is undergoing a review as many of the factors that were in play during its inception have now changed, for example the commencement of the Government’s Business Support Simplification Process which clearly defines the framework of publicly funded support to business and the establishment of Business Link Northwest as the main gateway of access to that support in the region.
“We have been very happy with both the quantity and quality of work that Junction YK have produced to date, but need to ensure that the original concept remains robust and defensible within the parameters in which we now operate and continues to represent value for money.”
