Following the change in management at Manchester’s Metrolink, CBS Outdoor has won the contract to handle the advertising sites related to the Metrolink system and network.

The four year contract is believed to be worth around £1.2m.

Stagecoach replaced Serco as operators of Metrolink on Sunday 15 July. The advertising was previously managed in house by Serco and those involved are likely to transfer across to CBS.

The advertising opportunities include all the trams’ interior sites, window advertising, exterior positions and 4-sheet poster sites at tram stops.

The delivery and day to day management of the new contract will be overseen by the CBS team in Manchester.

Metrolink currently shifts around 55,000 passengers a day but the figure is expected to rise sharply over coming years.

CBS Outdoor already manages the advertising on Manchester’s buses and at sites at railway stations, through its Northern Rail and First TPE franchise.

The company also works with Stagecoach UK Bus Group to manage advertising on all of its buses in Manchester and elsewhere nationally.

Jason Cotterrell, commercial director at CBS Outdoor commented: “We’re delighted to add Stagecoach Metrolink to our portfolio of transit opportunities that captivate Mancunian consumers on the move. With 20 million passenger journeys and routes through the heart of a booming and growing city this is an exciting addition to our rail and bus portfolio in the North West.”

Andy Morris of Stagecoach added: “CBS Outdoor’s experience and knowledge of the transport market means we’ll be able to continue to grow and develop the advertising infrastructure. We’re really looking forward to working with them to develop this environment for both commuters and advertisers.”

CBS Outdoor also manages the advertising sites on London’s tube and on Sheffield’s and Croydon’s tram networks.
