Chester housing trust claims UK first for newspaper wraparound | Print |  Email to a friend
Monday, 11 February 2008
Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) has chosen to distribute its 2007 annual report to Chester and surrounding areas residents by way of a wraparound on over 120,000 copies of the weekly Chester Standard. The Housing Trust believes it is the first HT in the UK to communicate in this way.

In previous years, CDHT has distributed a ‘mini’ annual report in the form of a booklet or leaflet which it has marketed through door to door delivery and direct mail.

The report imitates a newspaper front page complete with bold graphics and headlines.

Sue Bramley, deputy chief executive of CDHT said: “Annual reports can risk becoming uninviting blocks of text, but by using the wraparound CDHT has tapped into a broad readership, including all of its customers and everyone else within the region. The Trust wanted something that would grab the attention of customers and colleagues alike, with a vibrant design to match its positive news.

"There’s a lot of information to digest, but the newspaper format helps to break it down, reporting on the past 12 months and looking forward to the year ahead too. We’re pleased with the layout which makes it really appealing to read.”

CDHT believes that the new format has also delivered two immediate and clearly tangible results: significant costs savings and improved response.

A spokesperson said that the trust had received many more enquires this year than in previous years from customers and residents expressing an interest in engaging with the trust.

CDHT was created in November 2000 to acquire the housing stock of Chester District Council. It owns and manages over 6,000 properties in and around Chester.
