Diabetes UK has tasked Chester event company EMS to create and manage the health body’s 2008 National Roadshow.
A key part of the new campaign this year is to reach out to more Black and Asian communities as diabetes has now become substantially more common among these communities, affecting 6.5 per cent of these communities compared to 3.7 per cent of the UK as a whole. Increasing affluence, particularly among the Asian communities, is bringing new challenges in its wake.
EMS’ dedicated mobile units will first appear in London in March before moving out across the UK later in the year.
Ben Holdstock, senior roadshow organiser at Diabetes UK, said: “EMS has been an excellent partner in helping us raise awareness of the seriousness of diabetes.”
Around 2.2 million people in the UK are currently living with diabetes, with, it is claimed a further 750,000 people unaware that they have Type 2 diabetes.
EMS employs around 40 staff. Its clients include Cheltenham & Gloucester, Macmillan Cancer Support and Typhoo.
