DRIVESAFE has unveiled its latest campaign to reduce the numbers of casualties on Greater Manchester roads.
A powerful platform Aimed at making pedestrians aware that the slightest distractions when crossing the road can lead to disastrous consequences, the campaign can now be seen at Victoria Train Station and 14 other train hubs across the Manchester area.Supported, and created internally, by CBS Outdoor, the activity utilises a mix of outdoor formats and street furniture to inculcate its message - Imploring people to concentrate less on mobile phones, MP3 players and chatty friends and more on the potential risks caused by traffic. DRIVESAFE spokesperson Karen Delaney said of the campaign: “'We wanted to use different formats of advertising to get the message across. The huge banners, pillars and floor graphic at Victoria Train Station are hard to miss.” She continued: “People are too quick to blame the motorist for collisions or near misses. Statistics show that pedestrians (that are injured) cross in dangerous places, or they are listening to music, using the mobile phone or talking to friends. Pedestrians have to look out for themselves, make sure they are seen and especially look out for traffic.” In the last 3 years there have been over 6,000 pedestrian casualties within Greater Manchester, with young people being particularly at risk. With this in mind the campaign is also targeting every Year 7 pupil within the city limits; distributing a quiz sheet asking questions about the different challenges they face when travelling out and about on, or near, the city's roads. http://www.drivesafe.org.uk
