The marcomms team at Stockport Council have enlisted the Tittensor twins from TV’s Shameless and Emmerdale to help them make the upcoming local elections relevant to young voters in the borough.
Generation X at work The twins are fronting the council’s Generation X campaign, which aims to communicate to young people that local politics have a considerable impact on their everyday lives. As such Luke (Daz Eden in Emmerdale) and Elliot (Carl Gallagher from Shameless) are fronting an initiative that targets colleges, sports centres, libraries, radio stations and the web, urging young people “don’t get angry, get a little cross.” Posters, banners and postcards communicate that things like pub opening times, job opportunities and local facilities are all affected by decisions made on a local level and urges them to participate in the political process. Head of marketing and communications Iain Ratcliffe said that he had recruited the local stars to “grab the attention of younger people and get them interested in local democracy." www.stockport.gov.uk/elections Something to add?
