EMS has won a contract to develop a mobile unit that delivers something other than the team’s usual on-the-road marketing solutions – this time the Chester-based firm will be creating the world’s first mobile chemotherapy unit.
The work in progress Welsh cancer charity Tenovus awarded the contract for the job to EMS, charging the team with creating a huge 13.6 metre long mobile unit that will treat patients in their own communities – removing the practical and emotional strain of travelling long distances. It will also house facilities for counselling, screening and prevention services, while its flexible design allows it to be manipulated to provide a lecture theatre space. EMS, which won the business following a tender process, is currently building the unit, with a launch deadline of early next year. Tenovus chief executive Claudia McVie commented: “By taking treatments out of the hospital setting and making sure people can access the cancer support services they need in their local area, we are freeing up their time and money, giving them the reassurance of being treated locally and also freeing up valuable space in hospitals for the NHS.” She added of EMS: “Finding the right partner for this project was absolutely critical, as it is a first and it involves a large amount of our funds. When completed the unit will be able to provide the space and facilities to treat four chemotherapy patients at a time. www.eventms.com Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
