Guy Hodgson to join the University of Chester’s Media Department |

Journalist Guy Hodgson is leaving UCLan to become the deputy head of the media department at the University of Chester in September.
 Hodgson He has spent the past seven years as a senior lecturer at UCLan.
Hodgson, 51, joined UCLan in May 2000 and for the past five years he has been course leader of the MA and Postgraduate Diploma in newspaper journalism in Preston. His students have included Nick Owens who was young journalist of the year in 2005.
Hodgson’s earlier career included 14 years at the Independent and six years at the BBC. He still writes regular football reports for the Independent on Sunday.
He told How-Do: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Preston, where I have made many friends, but the offer from Chester was too attractive. I am particularly pleased I will be given time to research my PhD on wartime newspapers in Manchester.”
