Health and fitness industry advertising medium Gym Screen Media has claimed record sales results for the first quarter of 2008 for its digital signage advertising.
The company, based in south Manchester, said the bulk of the increase in growth has arisen from a “marked increase in our B2B sales to small and medium enterprises.”
Gym Screen Media operates digital media screens in more than 270 health clubs across the UK including clubs owned by David Lloyd, JJB Fitness, Total Fitness and Virgin Active. The company claims that its reach is 1.2million club members with a 7.2 million footfall each month.
The company’s former chairman, Bob Howells, has also stepped down in favour of Terry Hancock who has become executive chairman of the company. Hancock has previous experience of corporate finance, media and IT businesses.
The company has also announced that Tom Henderson, MD and founder of Gym TV, has moved into a consultancy role where he will concentrate on the development of new networks for the company.
Henderson said: “We have achieved what we set out to do when we first started the business nearly eight years ago. The company is now moving onto its next stage of growth and this is an ideal time for me to re focus back to what I enjoy most.”
Guy Bucknall, now sole MD of Gym Screen Media, said: “These senior management changes are the final part of the plan for this stage of the development for the company.
“This industry is changing and growing very rapidly. The board had the foresight to see the changes coming and we have positioned ourselves to be a key player in the next phase of development in the digital signage industry.
“It has been a long, hard slog to get to this point but I am now extremely confident in us as a business and in our future growth.”
Gym Screen Media employs 28 staff and is forecasting sales of £1.8m for the year to December 2008.
Advertisers with Gym Screen in the past 12 months have included Adidas, Axa Healthcare, Glaxo SmithKline/Lucozade, Mazda, Nike, Bupa, Paramount Comedy, the Royal Navy and Volkswagen.
