How-Do has joined forces with events company, Out There, to launch a first for the region, the North West Football Awards (NWFA).

The Awards aim to celebrate the commercial, marketing and professional services footballing talent and expertise that exists in the region off the pitch, in addition to the recognised talent on the pitch.

The Northwest is home to 26 professional football teams, including four in the Conference League.

The region is also home to the PFA, the Football League and the National Football Museum, as well as a number of football and sporting agencies and commercial sports goods businesses, such as Adidas, Umbro, Reebok and Nike and retailers JJB Sports and JD Sports.

North West professional services firms are to be found advising on football matters across the UK and overseas.

A number of acclaimed footballing experts have agreed to join the panel of judges.

They include: Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the PFA; Maurice Watkins, a partner at leading law firm Brabners Chaffe Street and former legal director of MUFC; Alan Myers, Sky Sports North West bureau chief; Professor Tom Cannon, well known national football pundit and Gerry Boon, consultant & founder of the Sports Business Group at accountants Deloitte, acknowledged as one of the leading international specialist sports business consultants.

The awards categories are:

•    Goal of the Year
•    Community Club of the Year
•    Best Club Marketing Campaign
•    Best Club Sponsorship
•    Best Non Match-day use of a Football Ground
•    Commercial Team
•    North West Business Award for Services to Football

•    Player of the Year – Championship
•    Player of the Year – League One
•    Player of the Year – League Two
•    Player of the Year – Conference
•    North West Player of the Year
•    Manager of the Year
•    Club of the Year – On and Off Pitch Achievements
•    Lifetime Contribution to Northwest Football

Gordon Taylor, judge and spokesperson for the NWFA, commented: “The Northwest is widely regarded as a leading international centre for football, both in terms of business and on-pitch success.  I am delighted to be associated with the awards as they provide the opportunity to celebrate the success of the region. The scope of the categories means that all clubs, regardless of size, financial wealth or performance on the pitch, can get involved and stand a chance of winning, while the wider business community, which so greatly supports the region’s and nation’s football teams, can also gain recognition.”

The awards dinner will be held on Monday 12th November at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, and will raise money for The New Children’s Hospital Appeal, a charity for which Phil and Julie Neville are patrons.

Phil Neville said: “We are aiming to raise £20 million to support projects within The New Children’s Hospital, which is part of the New Hospitals Development, an investment of £420 million into healthcare services for Manchester and the North West.

“We’re pleased to be supporting the NWFA, as the dinner brings together the cream of the North West’s footballing and business community.”

The NWFA is a joint venture between How-Do and Out There Events. Marketing agency MC2 has been contracted to help publicise the event.

Marcie Incarico, chief executive of Out There Events, said: “The level of interest in this inaugural dinner has greatly exceeded our expectations. We believe that, as well as providing a platform for recognition for those associated with football in the North West, the awards will also raise a considerable amount for the New Children’s Hospital Appeal.”

Cracking idea, ambitious, considered, exciting....

Another entry in the catalogue of gaps in the market that Trinity, GMG et al should have closed yonks ago if they had any sense or talent left.

Good luck all round.

...but what's this got to do with a media web-site that does not report football? If you had awards for the best reporting, then that's a different thing!!! Or are you running out of cash...?
