Law firm DLA recruits Weber Shandwick's Dixon to head up its GGR practice | Print |  Email to a friend

International law firm DLA has recruited the former head of Weber Shandwick’s Leeds operation Joe Dixon to head up its fee-earning GGR (global government relations) department in Manchester.

The department offers a variety of services to clients based around planning, public affairs and crisis communications. The Manchester operation’s remit extends across the North to cover DLA offices in Liverpool and Leeds.

The new business department was initiated in the States and there are currently just four of the GGR operations in the DLA network: London, Brussels and Washington being the other three.

DLA and its ambitions in this area appear to be quite unique – certainly in the North West at least.

Dixon is heading up a team of four and has plans to expand the team further in coming months.

His team will be competing directly with a growing number of regional agencies pitching at the public affairs and planning markets. These agencies include Roland Dransfield, Tangerine, IPB and Dixon’s former employer Weber Shandwick.

Dixon said that he was unable to name individual clients of the service but they included a major retailer, several quarrying and construction companies and some public sector bodies.

"The DLA Piper contacts book" said Dixon "and the specialist knowledge of the legal teams is already proving invaluable when it comes to government affairs, regulatory advice and crisis communications."

A year ago Dixon was asked by Weber to open up the company’s new Leeds office. He was previously running the agency’s property team in Manchester having earlier managed the food and drinks team.

Last year Dixon was voted 'Outstanding Young Communicator' at the Pride awards.
