Among all the beautiful people at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool will be one stand out act... Rick Astley.
Former tea-boy to Warrington’s very own music guru Pete Waterman, Astley has been nominated by the public as the Best Act Ever. And it goes to prove what those digital communications experts have been saying for years, that the internet is a very powerful thing.
Rick 'n' Roll Millions of people were "Rickrolled" earlier this year when web users were tricked into clicking through to Astley’s YouTube video for Never Gonna Give You Up. It means either the public know a catchy tune, or they want to mess with MTV’s head, because they’ve come out in force and now he’s up against Britney Spears and U2. "The audience has spoken and MTV has been well and truly 'Rickrolled',” said Richard Godfrey, executive producer of the awards. "Rick's fans have obviously decided that he deserves recognition as a pop icon and no doubt they are determined to make sure he wins on the night." The awards take place on November 6th.
