Liverpool 08 guide sells out | Print |  Email to a friend

The initial print run of the official guide to Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008 has sold out.

The initial print run of the official guide to Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008 has sold out.

The 202 page publication, which retails at £5, was released just before Christmas and all 6,000 copies have been sold.

The publication has sold out in spite of not being available through traditional bookstores. It was initially only available online and at selected Marks & Spencer outlets and the city’s tourist information centres.

The official '08 guide lists around 350 events scheduled across the year together with maps, a  five page calendar and more general Liverpool and North West ‘cultural’ tourist information. The guide was designed and produced by Liverpool agency Finch.

The next edition, which is expected to be released by mid February, will be available in traditional stockists including Waterstone’s and Borders.

Separately, the Liverpool 08 team claims that the opening weekend of the 08 celebrations was seen by an estimated global audience of over 300 million people – not all of whom could have been Ringo fans.

Phil Redmond, deputy chairman of Liverpool Culture Company, added: ''This guide is the perfect way for people to navigate '08 and is a great memento of what will be a momentous year.

“Hopefully with Atomic Kitten's new single out this Sunday, as part of the Number One project, the city will soon be celebrating a unique double - topping both the book and music charts.''

They sold out? They only printed 6,000 copies! I know village festivals that print more copies for their village fairs.

Hardly reaching for the stars were they?
