Premier and Champions League high-fliers Manchester United have secured a five year 'partnership' deal with African telecoms firm Globacom Limited.
Globacom sees Red
The tie-in, brokered for an undisclosed sum, comes on the back of deals with China's Aigo and the £80m shirt sponsorship agreement with global financial services company Aon Corp.

Globacom's deal will see the firm offering mobile alerts and related products to customers in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin, while fans from those territories will also get the opportunity to win all-expenses paid trips to see United play in the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League.

In addition cadets from the West African nations will have the chance to train at the Manchester United Soccer Academy.

Paddy Adenuga, group chief executive at Globacom, was quoted in Africa's This Day as saying: "This new partnership with the world's most famous football club will no doubt give impetus to the quest by kids in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic to become world stars.”

As well as teaming up with United the business also sponsors the Nigerian and Ghanaian national football sides.

with all that revenue you'd have thought they might have been able to afford an embroidered poppy for their shirts?
alas, someone at OT has deemed respect for our war veterans not possible for the weekend!

i would also hazzard a guess that kids in Benin would be more interested in where their next square meal and cup of clean drinking water was coming from, rather than a text alert highlighting Owen has missed another sitter?
