Manchester's CUBE Gallery is set to play host to a new exhibition celebrating the work of a man the Observer described as ‘Britain’s best ever graphic designer’
Iconic work from Fletcher Alan Fletcher, who died in 2006, was the co-founder of Fletcher/Forbes/Gill in the 1960s and Pentagram in the 1970s.He is regarded by many as one of the most prolific and influential designers of the last century, creating corporate identities (including those for Reuters and the V&A) and high profile graphic projects (for clients of the order of ICI and Lloyds), as well as being at the vanguard of changes in book design through his role as creative director of Phaidon Press. CUBE's exhibition - titled 'Alan Fletcher: 50 years of graphic work (and play)' and curated by Emily King - spans the best of Fletcher's innovative and often witty work and runs from 22 January. The gallery's creative director Jane Anderson said of the upcoming show: "We are really excited to be presenting this important exhibition. "Britain is widely recognised for its design talent, with Manchester and the wider North-West becoming increasingly relevant in the 21st century. "We are expecting a great turnout – it’s going to appeal especially to design students and professionals." www.cube.org.uk Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
