The development of the huge mediacity:uk project moves on apace, with the appointment of Jane Deane as programme director and the news that the unveiling of the managing director is, according to a spokesperson for Peel Media, “very imminent.”
Deane joins the team from New East Manchester, where, as project director since 2000, she took responsibility for Sportcity and the Regional Casino Bid. Prior to that she led a citywide review of Manchester’s education infrastructure, an initiative that saw the creation of 19 new schools and over £100m of investment.
This undeniable pedigree suitably impressed mediacity’s partners - Salford City Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, with Chris Farrow, the latter’s chief exec, stressing “her track record in securing and rolling out large, complex projects is well established.”
Deane herself said of the appointment: “The delivery of mediacity:uk will be a transformational driver in the regeneration of Salford, the North West and the future of the UK's media and creative industries. I'm delighted to be playing a part in delivering this ground-breaking project and look forward to working with all the regional and national partners who will help to turn the vision for mediacity:uk into a vibrant reality."
Although obviously important to the project, the programme director job is a tier below the most coveted position of managing director (a title that now looks likely to replace that of chief executive).
As previously reported on How-Do, sources have suggested that there is a shortlist of three for this top-line job, which carries with it a suitably concomitant six-figure top-line salary.
Speaking to How-Do, a spokesperson for Peel Media – which, for this key position, will make the appointment without the input of mediacity’s partners – said that the man or woman for the post would now be revealed “very, very shortly.”
“I’m afraid I haven’t got a definite date as yet,” they noted, “but it’s certainly safe to say that it’s very imminent.”
How-do can only assume from this that the decision has now been made.
