A Merseyside village achieved instant internet notoriety yesterday, as a pack of news sites reported on the vandalism campaign that habitually sees the L of the name changing to a C on local signage.
Lunt, which dates back to 1251 (when it was referred to as de Lund), has now apparently grown so tired of the problem that local residents are considering changing the hamlet’s name.
One of the main suggestions so far is reported to be Launt, which would be pronounced the same, but somewhat harder to manipulate into an offensive word through the use of a spray can and a filthy mind.
At the time of writing the Lunt story was the most emailed news piece on the BBC website, and had also previously held the title of the most read.
Makes you wonder if it was a slow news day or something…
