Roger Liddle, a former adviser to the Prime Minister, has been appointed to the chair of Cumbria Vision, the region’s economic regeneration organisation.
Carlisle raised Liddle is currently principal advisor to the president of the EU and spent seven years as an advisor to the PM’s office on European issues. The new role will see him head up the organisation’s 14-strong board of directors, as they work to fuse together urban and rural agendas and ensure economic prosperity for the region. In recent times Cumbria Vision has acknowledged a need to communicate their aims to both regional and national audiences, leading to speculation that new marketing drives could be in the pipeline. It is unclear whether Liddle’s arrival will have any impact upon this. Speaking about the challenges ahead he stressed: “Cumbria Vision will lead the campaign to go out and secure the resources and commitments - both public and private as well as regional, national, European and global - to make our economic strategy deliver on the ground. “Cumbria has underperformed in the last decade, but the tide is turning and with the creation of the University of Cumbria, the sea change in government energy policy, the possibilities for rural regeneration and the promotion of sustainable, high value added tourism, the new opportunities are immense: if we all work well together, we can seize them.” Cumbria Vision secures the majority of its funding from the NWDA. www.cumbriavision.co.uk www.nwda.co.uk Something to add?
