It has been announced at the last minute that photographic brand Nikon will be one of the official partners of the 9th Fina World Swimming Championships, which take place in Manchester from today, 9 April, through to 13 April.
Nikon: making a splash As part of the sponsorship package Nikon will offer services free of charge to professional snappers at the event through its ‘service depot’, as well as having two official photographers – David Ashdown and Kaiwai Tang – at the poolside to take images of the day.An online photo gallery will also be uploaded at the end of the event, which is to be staged at the MEN Arena, to showcase the best images captured over its duration. Some 750 swimmers will take part in the championships, part of Manchester’s Year of Sport 08, with some of the world’s best sports photographers – a key market for Nikon – descending on the city to record the various highlights for global consumption. In total the event is expected to bring in an additional £5m to the city, through increased trade with hotels, restaurants, shops, taxi drivers and other associated companies and services.
