It looks like Manchester’s Photolink Creative Group is about to launch India’s first ever home-shopping catalogue for long standing client Argos. The move is believed to have the potential to revolutionise the retail scene on the sub-continent.
Photolink would not be drawn on the exact details of their role within the assault, but it looks likely that they are in the process of replicating their work with Argos in the UK, both shooting the photography and assisting in the design of the publication. The venture itself follows in the footsteps of a successful pilot launch that India’s Raheja Group conducted with Argos in Mumbai last year. This was known as Hypercity Argos and has quickly established itself within the marketplace, now notching up a reported 250 deliveries a day, mostly of furniture and electronics goods. However, the new development will see a growth far beyond this original pilot framework, as Hypercity Argos looks to expand its geographical reach and, reportedly again, eyes up a regional print and radio campaign to publicise the move. Photolink, which also works with Littlewoods, is known to have opened offices and photographic studios in Mumbai early this year and it would appear that this has been built on the foundations of the Hypercity Argos venture. Argos and Photolink: delivering in India Jayne Riley, the MD at the Ardwick-headquartered agency, is currently in India and was unavailable to comment. However, she has previously stated, when speaking of the new offices: “The scope of the research we have undertaken to understand the needs and aspirations of the Indian consumer is huge - we understand how they eat, drink, shop and live, and how they interact with brands and retailers. “This makes us ideally placed to work with the Indian market.” Argos will be hoping to replicate its UK success in the new marketplace. In the UK the firm, part of the Home Retail Group, has sales of £4.2 billion and employs 34,000 people across its business. The company claims that 17m UK households, approximately two thirds of the population, have an Argos catalogue at home at any one time. www.photolink.co.uk Something to add?
