Sally Sykes, head of UK communications at AstraZeneca based in Alderley Edge, is to join the board of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy in March as director of communications.
She will be based at DePuy’s UK HQ in Leeds from where she will be overseeing the communications for DePuy Orthopaedics’ operations in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. DePuy is a developer, manufacturer and distributor of hip and knee replacements, as well as spinal implants.
In her role at AZ, Sykes led a team of 30 people reporting to her covering internal and external communications for 12,000 UK staff.
Prior to joining AZ, Sykes held senior positions with Ciba-Geigy, Scottish & Newcastle, Littlewoods and most recently was head of comms at Manchester Airport.

In 2006, she was rated by “PR Week” as one of the 50 most influential UK PR practitioners.
Sykes told How-Do that the new position carried an even more senior international role and she would be reporting directly to DePuy’s company president. She has no immediate plans to relocate across the Pennines.
She said her departure would not result in any significant changes to the team which is based out of both Luton and Alderley Edge.
