The Manchester Publicity Association has a new chairman, or rather chairwoman, as it announced yesterday that Nicola Leyland has been officially appointed to the position.
Leyland: a new era Leyland, who heads up the Key 103-based sales office of Bauer Advertising, takes over the reins from outgoing chair Terry Savage and, in a statement yesterday, has already made clear her plans for reaching out to new sectors beyond the ‘traditional media’ milieu.“There is great potential to expand our membership base and social and training activities into more diverse areas such as the digital and creative industries,” she commented, adding: “and there is also potential to develop credibility and diversity by collaborating with other groups and associations nationwide. “We are always keen to talk to anyone who wants to give something back to their dynamic industry and we’d be delighted to hear from anyone interested via the MPA website www.mpa.org.uk.” Leyland said that the organization, the largest of its kind in Europe, will continue its fund-raising efforts on behalf of NABS and would now be conducting regular research to ensure the group’s activities met its members’ needs. The new chairwoman has been at Bauer, formerly Emap, for four and a half years. She is currently commercial director and represents the Bauer Radio portfolio to regional agencies and advertisers. Prior to joining Bauer Leyland worked at Viacom Outdoor and spent eight years with Autotrader, during which time she lived in Sydney for two years setting up the Australian edition of Autotrader Magazine.
