Stockport comms team continues Healthwise run | Print |  Email to a friend
Wednesday, 26 March 2008
Stockport Council’s internal communications team, headed up by Iain Ratcliffe, is continuing to push the Healthwise campaign, an initiative that won them a coveted PR Week gong last year.

In the latest activity the marcomms unit has set up dedicated intranet pages and blogs to follow the progress of a team of council workers that are training for the BUPA Manchester 10K Run, which takes place in May.

Stockport Council’s internal communications team, headed up by Iain Ratcliffe, is continuing to push the Healthwise campaign, an initiative that won them a coveted PR Week gong last year.
Healthy and wise work
The band of runners, part of the council’s 10,000 strong workforce, were brought together by the Healthwise initiative, which aims to raise awareness of key health and wellbeing issues that can affect staff at work and at home.

In addition to the blogs and intranet resources, further links allow non-running council members to access information on improving their fitness, giving up smoking and setting up personal training plans.

Ratcliffe, the head of marketing and communications for the council, said of the latest burst of activity: “Healthy staff make for a happier and more productive workplace and we have encouraged our staff to challenge themselves to get healthier.

“The use of social media tools is an increasingly important and exciting area of communications.”

He added: “Our aim is to encourage and inspire staff to get more information on keeping fit and eating healthily.

“This will help inform people of the importance of looking after their own wellbeing, as well as reducing the number of days lost through sickness absence and the subsequent cost to Stockport Council Tax payers.”
