University Place, Manchester University’s new 1100 seat conference venue will open for business at the beginning of 2008.
The new £65m building with a distinctive rotunda will, it is claimed, be the largest purpose built lecture theatre in Manchester. The 1100 seat semi-circular auditorium can break down into two separate 600 and 400 seat theatres. The eight storey venue will also offer conference promoters 23 additional seminar/break out rooms, 500 sq m of exhibition area and a 400-seat restaurant.
The University’s conference office has started planning visits for event organisers, associations and key industry decision makers. Richard Handscombe, sales and marketing manager at the University said: "In such a competitive market, University Place is one of the most breathtaking developments in the business meetings world. With a number of events already booked, we are confident that the venue has a bright future as a conference destination and will also help to raise regional standards even higher." The University’s target for 2007/8 is to host 160,000 delegates.
