The case against Michael Welch, the former Digital Industries North West (DINW) boss, has been transferred to Warrington Crown Court following Welch’s appearance in court last week.
Welch, and his co-defendant Anne Hunt, appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Tuesday 22 January. How-Do understands a plea of not guilty was submitted. How-Do also understands that the police have now completed the bulk of their interviewing of witnesses, the majority of whom were quizzed about events that occurred during 2003 and 2004.
Some of the background issues relating to the fraud charges have been complicated by some uncertainties surrounding Welch’s personal funding of the activities of Digital Industries North West (DINW) in 2003 while the NWDA was sorting out previous funding issues. The offences related to the case against Welch all date from 30 March 2003 to 28 June 2003 but How-Do understands that statements have been obtained for a period relating primarily to 2004.
Welch, 46, of Ridgway Gardens, Lymm faces one count of obtaining £440,000 from the NWDA by deception and two charges of concealing criminal property. His former partner Anne Hunt of Heath Road, Hale, faces two counts of concealing criminal property.
