How-Do weekly Wrap - 1 August 2008 - Malcolm Handley | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 01 August 2008
Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West

The Wrap's guest editor this week is Malcolm Handley

So, farewell to covering Bolton Wanderers’ matches Gordon Sharrock - your 30-year sentence is served. Good luck in the new role. I wanted to mention you first so the Trotters can be top at least once this year.

Congratulations to Osprey - its swoop for the Hadrian’s Wall Country contract can only be good news for this often underrated slice of our region’s heritage. Although Hadrian and his Roman Direct Works gang are like a rash at the moment, everywhere you look - the momentum must be maintained.

Congratulations too for Madhouse after landing the lead creative role at Pannone and - if confirmed - to Glorious for its success with NWDA. Although, in my one brief nod to fair play, every race must have its losers, so commiserations to the also-rans.

Of course the hard work starts now. Glorious will have a job on its hands convincing NWDA executives that although its marketing ploy to arbitrarily rename our region ‘Northwest’ , is its own business - when it comes to quoting on the region, it really does remain the North West. Sorry. A joined up word for a joined up region is nonsense. No more of this flapdoodle please.

Judging by Pannone’s response to Madhouse’s appointment, the agency may have an equally tough battle. Communications bosses at the successful law firm say, Madhouse impressed us with “their” creativity and “their” grasp of key messages - let’s hope when Madhouse takes on the role, “it” has a grasp of good English for media releases.

There are 40,000 finger-trapping incidents each year, according to Souter's new clients Fingershield - big in Nordic Nokia-land. If the deeply irritating trend for Blackberry-wielding drones continues to flood the theatre with light while they check e-mails, during performances - that number will grow. I promise!
