How-Do weekly Wrap - 19 September 2008 - Maxine Muzzlewhite | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 19 September 2008

Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.

The Wrap's guest editor this week is Maxine Muzzlewhite.

Well winter’s definitely on its way – out in the sticks of Derbyshire it’s digital that keeps us going.

So what’s going on in How–Do this week? Once again there’s lots of news out there but I felt at least one item had to be digital. So - what about this as a starter - the piece of brilliant news that Lyndsay Menzies, MD at Bigmouth Media will be one of the keynote speakers at the Business North West event in November. It’s so refreshing to see a woman staking her claim in this man’s arena - it looks like it’s going to be a great two days.

Following on from the comments about Twice Magazine, as an online publisher, I think it unfair to tarnish all of us with the same brush. I have morals too and like most upstanding publications it’s probably something that journalists must think about before sending off their work.  Unfortunately, I think it’s like any business transaction you make today, you should check up on those you wish to work with.

On reading that TBWA is about to launch its new campaign for Imperial Leather, I did laugh. As I chuckled away, I kept wondering how many ways are there to try to sell a bar of soap? TBWA have taken on top photographer Matthew Shave and instead of using the usual shower shot has gone for something slightly risqué. The proof with be in the pudding as they say. Let me know what you think.

As an ex-employee of the MEN Group, it’s always sad to hear about closures. But it seems they are looking to consolidate into digital so maybe this was something on the cards anyway. The key is to bridge the gulf between the person in the street wanting to place an ad in their local newspaper office and the demands of the digital age.

Surely this makes digital an even better industry for us all to be in.
