How-Do weekly Wrap - 20 February 2009 - Patrick Allen | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 20 February 2009

Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.

The Wrap's guest editor this week is Patrick Allen.

For pretty obvious reasons, I have been contemplating the lyrics of Bob Dylan this week and I must agree with the great man that The Times They Are A-Changin’.

That is certainly the case at Salford Quays where work proceeds apace on Media City. Amidst all the talk of BBC contracts for those moving north and a pretty artist’s impression of the new site we are all beginning to realise that this major development will soon be a reality.

Therefore, I was delighted to see that Peter Salmon, who this summer will be taking up his post as the first ever Director BBC North, has agreed to be the guest speaker at the How-Do Awards on 30 April.

However, whilst things are changing for the better at the BBC, it appears ITV are contemplating the unthinkable and selling off Coronation Street.

Breaking into the established media can be difficult so I would like to wish Anna-Louise Gilhooley and her new venture, Worklife, which hopes to combine business and lifestyle into one magazine, every success.

Having said that it’s pleasing to see that despite the 24 hour digital revolution the Blackpool Gazette can still produce an early edition to cover a major local story such as the fire at the iconic Yates Wine Lodge

As the biggest co-operative business in the UK we are always looking for opportunities to promote the mutual way of doing business so I would urge any agency to consider Liverpool Mutual Homes who are looking to set up a new roster of suppliers.

Finally, I must say I just loved the How Do editor’s comment that people on Monday waited until Corrie came back on before getting up to put the kettle on.

Patrick Allen is marketing director of The Co-operative Group
