Oh heck. Christmas really is just around the corner. I know this because commercial radio stations are jammed to the brim with seasonal ads. Perceptive of me, eh?
In fact, the non-stop onslaught of jingly-jangly commercials has finally spurred me into Christmas shopping action. So, this weekend, I will be dragging the wife into Liverpool – and the main reason we’re starting there is because we both desperately want to see Go Penguins. Great to see ICE taking full marketing advantage of the five-foot high birds scattered around the city, Superlambanana-style. I can’t wait to see Penny the Penguin in action – and might even be tempted to do a piece to camera…
Staying with the Christmas theme, my attention has already turned towards Christmas television for this year, so how delighted was I this week, to see news of Steve Coogan – The Inside Story? I’m a big fan of Coogan’s creations and spent a large chunk of my teenage years glued to Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer in the 90s – so the spoof documentary should be a win-win for me.
Doing lots of work on our recent Help For Heroes day and Websafe internet safety campaign has tired me out, but reminded me why I love the job I do. In fact, changing careers has never even crossed my mind until I clapped eyes on what can only be described as one of THE best jobs going – model builder for LEGO!
Brazen PR has come up with a terrific idea to hold X-Factor-style auditions for the job at The Lowry Hotel. All you have to do get through to the next round is create an animal in 15 minutes. Easy, surely? And seeing as my first child is due next April, I could do with all the LEGO building practice I can get – let me at those plastic blocks!
Finally – as sad as it has been to see the devastation caused by the floods, I’m pleased to see viewing figures going up for news channels in the regions affected. As a hard-nosed journo, it’s good to see there’s still a healthy appetite for news content on traditional media - and shows the importance of protecting staff in newsrooms at local and regional level – not just national.
