How-Do weekly Wrap - 3 July 2009 - Steve Downes | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 03 July 2009

Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.

The Wrap's guest editor this week is Steve Downes.

In a week when we’ve all been coming to terms with the death of a show biz legend (Farah Fawcett is a fond memory for an ex all-boy Grammar School lad), How-Do had a whiff of silly season around it this week. Could someone buy somebody (McCanns meet Code, Code meet McCanns) or have a decent row like these guys to spice things up? They’ve been keeping me amused for weeks, worse than me and Mrs D in Sainsbury’s. Remember “pas devant les enfants” gentlemen.

Well done to Rattle for getting this JD Sports work although I believe MD Nigel Hughes is being paid in retro Adidas trainers for it rather than a fee. And a nod to SKV for this idea for Futuresonic which shows you need a creative idea in Social Media as much as the know-how. Whilst we’re on Social Media, displaying my legendary maturity, I had to have an ogle at this which I think is excellent but they may have boobed in not having a blog.

I like it that the NUJ are having a comedy night in support of North West journalists and wonder if Jenny Lomax meant the pun in her comment "We are delighted to see that people are prepared to stand up for journalism”. She should be on the bill if she did.

I’m going to have to go along to that to cheer myself up if I attend this Martin Amis event in Manchester tonight. Must remember to download the MP3 recording for when I’m feeling down.

I also thought it was a bit harsh to criticise this Rochdale MP. Rather, he should’ve been praised for having the biggest design and print budget remaining in the region…

So, finally, returning to departed celebs, it was endearing to see that, from all the global media coverage on the death of Michael Jackson (and Trinity's Liverpool-based Sport Media division), did How-Do feature Sky, Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone? No, Kirby Lonsdale’s Indigo 106.6 FM...now that’s local news reporting.

Bloody hell Steve! Have you not read the How-Do guide to writing the Weekly Wrap? Where's the blatant self-promotion? Where's the complete refusal to address any of the issues raised on the site during the week?

Christ if others start following your example, I'll actually have to read it each week.

A very refreshing change. This sets the standard for the future!
