How-Do weekly Wrap - 7 December 2007 - Sandy Lindsay | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 07 December 2007

Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.

The Wrap’s guest editor this week is Sandy Lindsay

So the CIPR Northwest PRide awards passed with barely a whimper.

Despite the usual air kissing and declarations of ‘dahling how fab you look’, followed by ‘how old does she look’/’how much weight has she put on’ whispers behind hands (I’m so glad I booked that appointment with SurgiCare!) and the fact that us agencies were slightly conspicuous by our absence in the gold gong stakes, the fall-out has been deafening in its silence.

I’m old-school enough to remember (and vaguely miss) the days of cat fights, walk-outs and bitter diatribes – it made for such juicy fodder which gleefully sustained us all the way to Christmas!

Sigh.

And so on to my role as ‘guest editor of the Wrap’…

We read about two big boosts for the B2B marketing community, with the Liverpool Daily Post planning a ‘meatier’ business offer come February and the Manchester Evening News adding another page to its business offer with immediate effect (linked on How-Do, though I couldn’t possibly comment, to the launch of Crains) – exciting times.

Clearly I’d be mad not to highlight the exciting news that the NWDA is opening up its design panel (PR next huh?)

I can’t help putting the boot in to Love for its work with Doc Martins – an iconic brand which Alistair and his team has done superb work with.

And finally, in the: ‘I’m sorry you must be confusing me with someone who gives a **** category' comes the news that Ronaldo is the most searched for ‘I hate’ on Google , beating men and school into second and third places (some people really need to get a life).

On a general note, rumour has it that various, long-standing and major accounts are up for pitch.  If I’m right, as Christmas approaches, some geese are going to get very fat while others are in for some potentially painful shocks and holes in budgets come January.

We’ve already seen two agencies crash and reform in different guises this year; hopefully 08 won’t see more.

Sandy Lindsay is MD of Manchester and London based Tangerine PR
