How-Do Weekly Wrap - Friday 26 October 2007 - Angie Sammons/Liverpool Confidential | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 26 October 2007

Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.

The Wrap’s guest editor this week is Angie Sammons

Nick Jaspan, proprietor of How-Do, revealed earlier this week, exclusively, of course,  to Liverpool Confidential,  that the late-night tap-tap-tapping of him at his 'pooter was driving poor Rachel, the mother of his lovely little boy,  quite mad.

Over at the interesting end of the M62, there are occasionally similar domestic ructions at the Scouse Confidential outpost . Except, in our case, the tap-tapping usually comes from the mice on the Ready Brek box.

The worst/best thing for a hack working on a website is that sometimes you cannot let it lie. The cleaners don't come in to tidy Cyberworld at 6pm and turn the lights off.  So if you've got the back office passwords on the computer at home, all sorts of bother can ensue as you are lured back, when, really, you should be getting a life.  “Come here, just click my mouse.  I love it when you talk to me in Dreamweaver. Go on, go on, upload. Oh.”

Well perhaps not quite.

Did the Yates Brothers experience this when they were creating their mighty online tool, www.justsearching. Was their mum yelling them downstairs from the back bedroom to tell them their fish fingers and Smiles were going cold? Who knows, but Mrs Yates's boys are certainly smiling now: Just Search, founded  in 2003, has just been sold to Sweden’s Getupdated for £8.8m .

Meanwhile, ITV has made redundancies from its factual dept in Manchester . This is a channel where, sadly, nothing newsworthy of note has flourished since the inexplicable decision to replace World in Action with Tonight with Trev.  Unless you count the Ant and Dec scandal.

Perhaps ITV should have taken a leaf out of Nick Appleyard's book and gone back to basics.

Mr Appleyard, new editor of the Sunday Sport , plans to do just that, in an effort to recapture the paper's former glory.

And that means....

“Without boobs I think the paper would lose its established identity a little,” he mused. “That’s important to the readers - you can never take the boobs out entirely.”

So there we have it. Any cheap remarks containing the words rising and circulation should be addressed to someone else.
