Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West. The Wrap’s guest editor this week is Alan Gibbons Wow….a guest editor of How-Do for the week! Nothing to do with my company being the How-Do Media 100 co-sponsors and partners though, I can assure you. I was concerned with my photo appearing after seeing the beautiful media faces who went before me until I noticed Mark Garner and Tony Murray’s ‘impressions of a constipated man’ pictures last week (take a look!). A relative newcomer to the North West media scene, I do really appreciate the value of well considered media placement. This makes me wonder about the placement of national press and radio advertising... a full page advert in The Times for Northern Rock recently with the usual CEO assurance message was understandable – but to place it directly before a double page spread photo with a queue of angry Northern Rock pensioners bigger than Chelsea’s European match support last week, I thought was hilarious. Along with your local radio advert falling between guilt inducing ‘save an animal sanctuary’ and reminders of how much debt you’re in, it has to be bad for your brand surely? Great news for media agency Brilliant this week , brokering a seven figure sponsorship deal between Subaru and Sky TV to ‘bin Subaru’s boy racer image’. I do wonder however whether the deal - across three Sky film channels - will stop the local chavs driving up one’s backside with their fog lights on… MEN Media’s new proposition ‘The Jobs Mine’ looks encouraging. Good luck to Mark Rix…this converged approach can only be a good thing. Rupert Murdoch apparently would often comment on never messing with the “rivers of gold” with reference to his newspapers’ classified advertising. Check out jobs this week on How-Do.
