Welcome to the weekly Wrap from How-Do - media news for the North West.
The Wrap's guest editor this week is Chris Barry.
THE two faces of the BBC have been apparent in the last two weeks.
The good side has been on show with the excellent coverage of the historic US election where its reporting and analysis of the remarkable events Stateside, was journalism of the highest quality - informative, compelling and balanced.
When there's a big story to be covered, no matter where in the world, we rightly expect the best from the corporation, and most of the time we get it.
On the other side of the coin, we had Russ and Ross-Gate, where the Corporation was left open to the fiercest criticism of its reputation, ethics and of course funding.
As is so often the case with big organisations, the BBC top brass were caught on the hop by the strength and depth of feeling whipped up over the infantile and over-rated duo's phone calls to Andrew Sachs.
Had someone taken ownership of the situation early, before it became the lead in every newspaper and the subject of national debate, suspending and fining Ross and Brand heavily, donating the money to Children in Need - and of course apologising to the Sachs family, then the matter would have been dealt with, and the feeding frenzy sated.
Instead the story grew legs and ran - bringing shame on a great national institution.
The speed of his exit, with no replacement waiting in the wings, speaks for itself.
Andrew Simpson, the boss of parent company Peel Holdings, will fill Greasley's shoes in the short term. Simpson already a central figure in the NO campaign on congestion charging, now has a second major job on his hands, in ensuring whatever is not right at MediaCity is rectified now, and ensuring the milestone development - so crucial to this region and the media sector, lives up to its potential.
