MTV MediaCityUK rumour gathers pace, as NXTBOOK brochure sells proposition | Print |  Email to a friend

The rumours that MTV Europe is set to be the next big name tenant of the MediaCityUK development are seemingly gathering momentum within the broadcast community.
The rumours that MTV Europe is set to be the next big name tenant of the MediaCityUK development are seemingly gathering momentum within the broadcast community.

It is currently being speculated that the music television network is set to relocate its entire European headquarters out of London and into the huge Peel Media development.

When contacted by How-Do to check the veracity of the story a spokesperson for MediaCity would only impart that they never talk about potential tenants prior to official announcements being made.

A source within the broadcast community suggested to How-Do that contracts for a major new tenant were now at the stage of due diligence, but they refused to confirm or deny whether this was MTV or another broadcast firm.

MediaCity has also been strongly linked with home shopping channel QVC, alongside a number of US based broadcasters (including CNN and ESPN).

MTV... we're in the dark
MTV held its European awards gala in Liverpool just last month.

In other, more tangible, news from the MediaCity camp, digital publisher NXTBOOK has spoken to How-Do about its new work to sell the development through a new online brochure.

The firm, which opened its Manchester office this summer, launched a digital edition of Peel’s brochure to engage with interested visitors to Code’s newly created holding site.

NXTBOOK’s Amber Stevens said that it was “natural step” for MediaCity to choose a format that encouraged “interaction and enquiries”, adding:

“The MediaCityUK website is still being developed and as such the digital version of the brochure enables people to find out what’s going on at MediaCity in a clear and concise way.”

You can see the brochure for yourself here http://www.nxtbook.com/nxteu/MediaCity/brochure/

Stevens also said that the business had now worked with “Bauer, BBC, The Times, Graduate Prospects and KPMG to name but a few.”

It'll never happen simply because what pop star is going to drag their pampered arse upto Manchester to do an interview? If anything, this'll be two disco trouser wearing fops in a studio blabbering on about Britney or some such. Hardly a massive media move.

Erm, surely most popstar's pampered arses come up to Manchester to tour and promote themselves anyway?
In fact doesn't Justin Timberlake base himself in Manchester when he tours the UK?
Maybe it's my age, but I'm sure I remember TOTP being based here and wasn't The Tube even further north? They got some pretty decent guests......
Book them and they will come.

So MTV is chained down with whoever's in Manchester that day? Oh I can see that working a treat.

And the reason TOTP moved to London is... and the reason The Tube died is...

Book them and they'll say 'first class tickets to manchester, a day out of our schedule? Are you mental?'

Very naive Mr Watcher, are you a Commissioning Editor by any chance? - "North of Watford there be monsters...!"

Our artists turn up wherever they're required to be - Manchester, Scotland, Cardiff, Bognor Regis, because sales and publicity are well worth a couple of hours round trip.

My experience is that artists like the change, there's only so many London studios you can visit before you get bored to tears with it - a trip 'outside' tends to liven them up and make it more exciting and interesting. Remember these younger artists love Manchester, the amount of American Smiths' fans we've taken to the Lads Club or Joy Division, Stone Roses groupies...

And as for "MTV chained down with whoever's in Manchester" - aren't they chained down to whoever's in London?!

Oh and it's not as if they're shooting 24 hours of live TV, it's probably about an hour a day, if that.

Rather than a day "out of our schedule" it would be a day written into our schedule.
