Word reaches How-Do that leading Australian magazine publisher, Derwent Howard, is supposedly on the brink of launching into the UK market with a new office in Manchester.
According to sources that have contacted How-Do, the publisher has signed up an individual to front the new office – the first for the firm outside its native land – and is currently looking to hire both sales and editorial staff. Further details were hazy at the time of writing, but it is believed that the company is looking to open its doors early in 2008.
Derwent Howard is well known in Australia and currently publishes a raft of 15 monthly and bi-monthly consumer magazine titles, as well as handling contract publishing assignments for a host of big name brands Down Under. This includes producing the monthly Blockbuster (video) customer magazine, Big W’s publication and the quarterly Ferrari Clienti title for all of Australia’s Ferrari owners and dealerships.
On the consumer front the firm publishes T3, Junior – Pregnancy and Baby (the country’s second biggest parenting magazine), FI Racing, Guitarist and Xbox 360.
It is unknown whether the firm is looking to open its Manchester base on the back of contract publishing wins within the UK.
