Word reaches How-Do that the London publisher is now actively recruiting freelancers and staff for its Manchester venture.
As the positions being sought are understood to be for listings staff, the company would not be drawn, when questioned, as to whether this meant funding for the print title had been secured or whether it simply meant additional investment in the Time Out Manchester web site instead of a print publication.
A majority of media pundits believed the Manchester publication would never see the light of day although How-Do’s own poll earlier this year suggested more readers had faith in owner/publisher Tony Elliot’s ambitions.
The Time Out Manchester web site has been quietly and steadily increasing its content for the past few months but this latest development implies a marked increase in activity could be imminent.
Mike Barnett, media and communications manager at the Library Theatre in Manchester said "We as a group of theatre media folk discuss Time Out Manchester's progress every time we meet. There is in my view, definitely a market for a print/what's on title."
On a related note, the publisher claims that sales of the first edition of the Time Out Manchester Guide, have substantially exceeded expectations and plans for the second edition have been brought forward.
